Grand prize winner receives $5,000 and a paid trip to New York to the conference (and more). Chicken Soup: Holiday Stories

Please submit your true stories about the entire December holiday season, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year's festivities too. Pay is $350 and ten copies. Limit 1200 words. Must be first person.  Deadline May 31

Wasafiri New Writing Prize

The prize supports writers who have not yet published a book-length work, with no limits on age, gender, nationality, or background. The winners of each category will receive a £1,000 prize and publication in Wasafiri magazine. The competition is open to anyone who has not published or signed a contract to publish abook-length work of fiction, life writing, or poetry, except forself-published worksor poetry chapbooks. Limit 3,000 words.

HG Wells Short Story Competition

They offer a £500 Senior and £1,000 Junior prize and free publication of all shortlisted entries in a quality, professionally published paperback anthology. Theme: The Fool. The length must be 1,500 to 5,000 words.  Deadline July 8

Annual Poet Cottage Writers Residency
Hollowdeck Press LLC sponsors the Annual Poet Cottage Writer’s Residency, offering a 10-day stay at Poet Cottage November 1 until November 10th free of charge. Geist

They are seeking short non-fiction (around 800-1500 words, flexible), typically personal narrative, for the notes and dispatches section. We are especially interested in writing grounded in a sense of place, historical narrative, personal essays on art, music and culture, profiles of ordinary people with extraordinary stories, fascinating fields of work, practices or hobbies, and everyday occurrences that show the humor and strangeness of life. Pay is usually $300-500. Fiction up to 5,000 words pays up to $1,000.  Deadline May 6
